Why PDFs end up sideways
Most sideways PDFs come from scanners and phone cameras. A document fed through a scanner the wrong way, or a photo snapped in portrait mode, becomes a PDF whose pages are rotated 90° — and reading it means tilting your head. Slides exported from presentation software can have the same problem in reverse. Rotation fixes the orientation without touching anything else on the page.

What the tool does — and does not — change

One limitation to know: the rotation applies to all pages equally. If a document has a mix — most pages fine, three sideways — the tool cannot pick out individual pages. The workaround is to split the PDF into single pages, rotate just the sideways ones, and merge everything back in order.
Pitfalls to watch for
- Rotating the wrong direction. The most common mistake. 90° and 270° both fix sideways pages — they just turn opposite ways. If the first attempt looks wrong, the second angle will be right.
- Assuming "upright" is universal. Some documents (like wide spreadsheets) are meant to be landscape. Only rotate when the content genuinely reads wrong, not just because the page shape looks unusual.
- Encrypted PDFs. As with every tool here, a password-protected file cannot be processed. Unlock it in your PDF reader first, then rotate the unlocked copy.
